Game 18 at Drexel

Post by HUSID74 »

Ok another road game and we're favs...can we continue our CAA road wins? Will the J & J duo continue their buzzer beating ways? One thing I know is that it will be close. What say ye?

Amen close is the way we roll. I don't want to jinx this but after watching part of the replay of Drexel vs Delaware I would be surprised if we didn't win this game and hopefully taking the lead and holding on to it! No come from behind heart stoppers!

Hofstra is favored by 3.5, and RPI Forecast has us winning by 3.5. Drexel shoots poorly and has a bad assist/turnover ratio.

Edit: The line is down to 3.

http://defiantlydutch.blogspot.com/2018 ... rexel.html is Jerry Beach's "I'll Be Quirky: Drexel."

https://portal.stretchinternet.com/drex ... Type=video has video.

Hofstra is starting the same players as at Towson, Wright-Foreman, Buie, Pemberton, Gustys, and Trueheart. Drexel is starting Kurk Lee (sophomore guard), Tramaine Isabell (junior guard), Austin Williams (senior forward), Sammy Mojica (senior guard), and Alihan Demir (sophomore forward).

Hofstra trails 11-8. Hofstra has made 4 out of 7 three-pointers, but missed both of their threes (I thought I saw them attempt three three-pointers but the statistics disagree). Drexel has more rebounds, 5 to 1. Gustys was taken out before he committed a foul and before Hofstra scored. Sabety has scored 4.

Edit: Hofstra scored their first 17 points in 4:33 to go up 17-12, and they lead 20-16. Drexel has gotten an offensive rebound from 5 of their 7 misses. Austin Williams leads all scorers with 7, but he has 2 turnovers. Sabety leads Hofstra with 6.

Edit: At the second media timeout with 11:42 left in the half, Ray became the tenth Hofstra player to play. I wonder when the last time Hofstra used 10 players that early was. Drexel committed only 2 fouls in the first 6:31, but they were both in point guard Kurk Lee. Hofstra went up 28-20 but it's down to 28-26.

A Drexel fan on twitter is mad. Apparently Drexel asked to move the game time because of the Eagle's game, and Hofstra refused. https://twitter.com/DCrain_AAD/status/9 ... 4804664320

Good...it's amazing how we can't hold leads. We get up nine then fritter it away...we may need to score 100 tonight the way this is going.

Hofstra led by 9 at 39-30 and leads 45-40 at halftime. Wright-Foreman has 14 points with only 1 missed shot, but he doesn't have any rebounds or assists. Six Hofstra players have 4 to 7 points. Pemberton made 1 out of 6 field goals but has 7 points due to free throws. Sabety has 6 without missing a shot, and he didn't play the last 11:42. Wormley and Ray have 5 and Buie and Gustys have 4. Trueheart and Radovic each have attempted 1 shot which was a missed three-pointer. Those two and Angus III, who hasn't attempted a shot, are scoreless. Gustys has 8 rebounds, and Wormley is second on Hofstra with 2! Hofstra only has 4 player rebounds (there are also team rebounds when the other team knocks the rebound out of bounds) not by Gustys. Hofstra has made only 2 out of 9 three-pointers, with Wright-Foreman and Ray making 1 each. Hofstra has made 13 out of 18 two-pointers and 13 out of 15 free throws. Sabety, Trueheart, and Angus III have 1 blocked shot, so Hofstra has already exceeded their average of 2.7. Tramaine Isabell leads Drexel with 10 points, but he only has 2 rebounds, putting him on pace for 4, which would be half of his average of exactly 8. Tadas Karirinas, a freshman who had a career-high of 2 rebounds and was averaging 0.8, leads Drexel with 4 rebounds. Austin Williams and Sammy Mojica have scored 9. Williams and Alihan Demir have 3 fouls. Demir made 1 out of 7 field goals and has more fouls than points.

LOL technical foul for not exiting the huddle quick enough. Can’t make this stuff up with the refs this season.

Drexel went up 48-47 before Gustys gave Hofstra the lead back. Hofstra led 56-54 and went on a 12-1 run to go up 68-55. It's 76-64 with 6:07 left.

Edit: With 2:24 left, Wright-Foreman has only attempted two shots in the half. Both were made two-pointers. He and Gustys have 18 and Pemberton has 16. Tramaine Isabell and Sammy Mojica are the top scorers with 21.

Good teams win, Great teams cover.. Right Evan?

Good win. Ugly end to the game, but we hit FT's when it mattered most. Rok was great again. JWF again, awesome.

Mr. Sabety (Mike34), your son had a good first half when Rok had a nice breather.

I don't have an opinion on that.

Hofstra had led by 14 until Drexel made a three with 3:18 left. Drexel went on a 16-4 run in exactly 1/15th of the game finished by going down 86-84 with 38 seconds left. Hofstra made 5 out of 6 free throws, and after Drexel had a turnover down 5 with 9 seconds left, they gave up.

Gustys and Wright-Foreman had 20 points on great shooting, with Wright-Foreman's only miss a 3 and Gustys shot 10-14. I give Gustys player of the game for having 16 rebounds. Wright-Foreman had 1 rebound and 1 assist. Contrary to the individual statistics, Hofstra was +9 with Wright-Foreman on the court and -3 with Gustys on the court. Gustys had the second-to-worst plus/minus on Hofstra with Radovic having the worst at -4. Ray scored 12. He made 2 out of 6 three-pointers, all 6 free throws, and did not attempt a two-pointer. He had 4 assists, and it was the first time he led us in assists. He had his third blocked shot of the season. I'll post more later.

Ray played 29 minutes. He and Radovic, who played 20, played more than starters Buie (13) and Trueheart (11). Wormley made both of his field goals and had 2 rebounds, 2 assists, and no turnovers or fouls in 11 minutes. Angus III played a season-low 4 minutes and did not have a point, rebound, or assist. Pemberton was second on Hofstra with 3 assists and led Hofstra with 2 steals. Nobody other than Gustys had more than 2 rebounds!

Tramaine Isabell led all scorers with 25 and led all players with 5 assists. He went in averaging 8.0 rebounds and 2.8 assists, but he had more assists than rebounds (3). He made 9 out of 13 field goals and 5 out of 6 free throws. He was +2 because Drexel got outscored 7-0 while he was on the bench for 1:24. Sammy Mojica had 22 points and made half his field goals. He didn't contribute many rebounds (2) or assists (0), but led all players with 5 steals with Pemberton the only other player on either team with more than 1 steal. Austin Williams made 7 out of 9 field goals and scored 15. He led Drexel with 8 rebounds and had Drexel's only 2 blocked shots. For both teams combined, the leading rebounder (Gustys) had double the rebounds of the second leading rebounder, and the second leading rebounder had double the rebounds of the third leading rebounders, who were Kurk Lee and Tadas Kararinas with 4 each. This is very hard because it requires the leading rebounder to have at least four time as many as the third leading rebounder.

Alihan Demir made 4 out of 14 field goals, which was the worst percentage of the 14 players on either team who made a field goal. However, his +8 led Drexel and was third behind Sabety (+11), and Wright-Foreman (+9).

Drexel attempted 70 field goals, but allowing a lot of attempts hasn't been a problem for us. In the last two complete seasons and this season, Hofstra is 11-5 (.688) when allowing at least 70 field goal attempts and 39-29 (.574) when allowing fewer than 70 field goal attempts.

Edit: http://www.espn.com/mens-college-basket ... =400991421 is the Associated Press recap. It begins by saying:

"PHILADELPHIA -- Rokas Gustys scored a career-high 20 points and pulled down 16 rebounds and Hofstra held off Drexel 91-86 on Saturday."

Gustys's career-high is 25.

Its amazing how poor the quality of reporting is... you would think that even the most basic of fact checking would find this error.

It's an unreasonable request- no team would accommodate that. Don't mess with the team's routine. They did the right thing.

Furthermore, Drexel has drawn about 700 or so at home this year. Who exactly would this have benefited? If a tree falls in the forest...
