I'm assuming we would rather Hofstra have a longer trip to an unseeded team than a shorter trip to a seeded team such as 3 seed Penn State. Here are the unseeded First Round hosts with worse RPIs than Auburn that are closer to Hofstra than Auburn is:

Rutgers
Wake Forest
Clemson
Wisconsin
Northwestern
North Carolina State

Rutgers is the only one of those that would not require a plane. Rutgers should be mad at the bracket because they're 11th in the RPI, but in order to reach the Round of 16 they would have to beat West Virginia, who is 7th in the RPI, unless West Virginia loses in the First Round.

NCAA handles travel for their tournament games. Your flights are booked before you even know where you are going or if you're in.

Great season....congrats to the team...too bad it had to end with typical NCAA silliness...this team should have had a home game!

Actually a pretty even game. Their goalie made some nice saves

Check out the video in this tweet by Simon. Shows how great the Hofstra family truly is, and makes me proud to be a part of it.

Love the video and how fans and all the athletic teams rallied around this special team. We are lucky to have someone as devoted as Simon who also has brilliant soccer mind as well. Hopefully we keep him for life.

Of note here, William and Mary won the auto bid on the men's side, and UNCW got in with an at-large. W&M's current RPI is 34, while UNCW's is 36. Both teams get home games in the first round of the NCAA tournament, yet our women were sent on the road with an RPI of 23.. What did those schools do to get on the good side of the NCAA, and who do they have advocating for them that we don't?

Only 205 teams play Men's Soccer, so the tournament has 48 teams compared to 64 for women. William & Mary hosts Columbia, who is 29th in the RPI. If they win they have to go to 1 seed Wake Forest. If they somehow win that game, they could face VCU. UNCW starts hosting Presbyterian, who is 120th in the RPI with more losses than wins. If they win they have to go to 3 seed North Carolina. If they win two games each, one of the regional finals would be 3 seed Duke vs. 6 seed North Carolina.

http://caasports.com/news/2017/12/1/wom ... rican.aspx says Kristin Desmond was one of 42 All-Americans. She was one of five players not from the Big East, Big Ten, Big 12, Southeastern, Pacific 12, Atlantic Coast, Atlantic 10, or American Athletic. She was the only player from New York or the six New England states.
