An NBA Record Was Broken At The Barclays Center Tonight

Post by EvanJ »

The Nets called timeout down 9 with 1:46 left. Alan Anderson made a three-pointer to go down 6. With 15 second left Anderson made a four-point play to go up 2. The Clippers' Chris Paul tied it at 100 and Jarrett Jack won it for the Nets with 1.3 seconds left. The Nets fans will be happy with the comeback, but what they probably don't know is that the Nets (8 for 18) and Clippers (8 for 25) had the worst combined free throw percentage in NBA history at .372. I used a combination of an NBA website through 2004-2005 and the basketball-reference Play Index for more recent seasons. Both teams shot three-pointers at least as well as free throws. The Clippers' DeAndre Jordan (2 for 12) and the Nets' Mason Plumlee (3 for 10) shot free throws horribly, but even if you take them out the rest of the players shot 11 for 21 (.524).
