If The Men's Basketball Team With Best SOS Had 0 Wins...

Post by EvanJ »

For recent seasons, here is the top strength of schedule (SOS) and where that team would have ranked in the RPI if they lost every game (ignoring the fact that in tournaments if they had lost they would have had different opponents and therefore a different SOS):

2015-2016 so far: Incarnate Word is 43rd with an SOS of .8097. Both of their Division I games were against undefeated teams.
2014-2015: Kansas had an SOS of .6229 which would have put them 219th in the RPI if they were winless
2013-2014: Kansas had an SOS of .6224 which would have put them 227th in the RPI if they were winless
2012-2013: Duke had an SOS of .6166 which would have put them 221st in the RPI if they were winless
2011-2012: Michigan State had an SOS of .6184 which would have put them 225th in the RPI if they were winless
2010-2011: Georgetown had an SOS of .6138 which would have put them 229th in the RPI if they were winless
2009-2010: Kansas State had an SOS of .6186 which would have put them 223rd in the RPI if they were winless

Incarnate Word's SOS is not sustainable. The teams from the six complete seasons would have had RPI ranks that are all the odd numbers from 219 to 229.
