On Saturday, Cornell's Stone Gettings scored a career-high 30 in an 89-86 loss at Niagara. This afternoon, he scored a career-high 39 points, but Cornell blew a 13 point lead with 7 minutes left and lost 97-96 in overtime at Delaware. Today he made 16 out of 21 field goals including 7 out of 8 three-pointers. From 2010-2011 through yesterday, teams were 8-1 when a player had at least 39 points, at least 7 three-pointers, and a field goal percentage of at least .762. He became the third player since 2010-2011 to score at least 39 points without making a free throw. Since 1963-1964 there have been 14 NBA players who scored at least 39 without making a free throw, and only 3 players have done it since 1997-1998. Stephen Curry and Dwyane Wade are the only active players who did that. The NBA record for points without a free throw since 1963-1964 is 48 by Hakeem Olajuwon and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. Cornell's Matt Morgan scored 34 today, which moves him up to second in Division I at 25.3 points per game. I have no way of finding this out, but it must be rare for the losing team to have two players score at least 34 points.
