Who Will Finish With The Second Best RPI In New York?

Post by EvanJ »

Despite its high population, New York (state, not city) has no elite teams in the RPI. Syracuse leads in 55th. Hofstra (73rd), Stony Brook (75th), and St. Bonaventure (76th) are close. Siena (87th) is the fifth and final New York team in the Top 100. The average RPI rank for all teams is 176th. The average RPI rank for the seven teams in New York City is 226th, and Columbia (150th) is the only one of those teams in the top half of the RPI. Fordham, who has the second best RPI of the New York City teams, is one spot ahead of Towson, who ranks 8th out of 10 CAA teams.

Edit: In the last 15 AP Polls before the postseason (2000-2001 through 2014-2015), only one time has a team in New York City or its suburbs be ranked, and that was St. John's in 2010-2011. The AP does not make a poll after the postseason.
