Cool - Local New12 coverage of "buzzer beater". Includes JWF, ST, JR with JM at the Mack trying to re-create the winning play. Nice coverage! :D :D

King Rice was was on Francesa yesterday and Mike asked him about the play. Rice said he’s never been a fan of fouling up 3, but saw so many statistics that supported it that he changed his mind. Don’t think he will do it next time.

Monmouth has had a tough few games with a 4OT loss to Penn and an OT loss to UConn prior to the Hofstra loss.

The media coverage from this one play/game was UNREAL. Fantastic stuff HU couldn't afford to buy in their greatest sports marketing dreams.

All I can say is THANK GOD HU was on the positive end of it!!

They have been on the losing end of these wild scenarios so they were overdue. I remember some years ago when Delaware had that good team loaded with strong guards and they were losing by 2 at HU and one of these guys threw up a shot almost from half court to beat Hofstra at the buzzer. This was a different play because it was three fold from JWF's hands to ST tip then JR has to bury it and Monmouth got back pretty fast on defense. Incredible!!

Hofstra's website has their schedule going back to 2000-2001, and Hofstra hasn't lost to Delaware at the buzzer during that time. Could you be thinking of Drexel's Frantz Massenat on January 23, 2013 when the score was 52-52 before that?

I️ remember that shot. He squeezed between two defenders at the buzzer and that prayer went in. Refs missed his teammate trying to call a time out. Didn’t matter it was some shot

It'll be interesting to see how Newsday covers this one, since they'll be forced to talked about Hofstra being better than that inferior team out east.

Not exactly...think the story was pretty fair; especially the last line about us owning the Island for another year. Of course, much of the story was about SBU missing the final shot...I was there it was not that close....add to that the fact that HU missed four straight free throw attempts to even allow SBU to get that close.

Throughout the second half it looked like Hofstra was one bucket away from turning it into a substantial win but turnovers and some other sloppy play allowed them stay in it.

If we were at home we would have won by 10-15 points IMO.

Yeah I'm in agreement with this. This team hasn't really found the killer instinct just yet but clearly know how to win close games!

Coach Joe was just a caller on the second to last WFAN Mike Francessa Program. He sounded great and was discussing the Monmouth game ending and the upcoming games with MC and VU.

Jay Wright was on about an hour after JAM. He mentioned that the team is coming to Long Island. Francesa responded like he had no clue, despite just recently talking about the game to Hofstra’s coach.

Our old friend Tom Pecora and the former NY Jet GM Mike Tannebaum were just on the Francessa Program mentioning former times at Hofstra. I still wonder what would have happened to HU basketball if TP did not accept the Fordham job. What do the other HU fans think?

This doesn't excuse Francesa, but if you told a random sample of NCAA Basketball fans from around the country that Hofstra and Villanova were playing and asked for guesses where the game was, most people would guess at Villanova.

If anyone missed Francesa yesterday, the segment is now posted online. JAM call starts around 10 minutes 40 seconds in.

Check out today's Newsday coverage with Pickel and SBU and Rutgers. Unbelievably biased.
