Men's Lacrosse 2018

Post by HofstraHockey »

Since I don't think anyone is starting a thread for each game, figured it could all be thrown in here.

I KNOW it's a scrimmage. But. Losing to a NEC school at home is bad. http://gohofstra.com/boxscore.aspx?id=8358&path=mlax

Concannon once again putting up a good save % was the only thing helping this team. He was top 5 in the country last year, and will have to be again this year, it looks like.

Do scores matter in a scrimmage?

Technically, no. If this was fall ball, I wouldn't care, because that's when you're trying people out, running plays you usually wouldn't, and just working out things. But this was their only tune-up for the season, and they should have run all over a team like this, especially looking at the lineup they used.

Hofstra was leading at the half vs. Hobart, then changed FO specialists and went 1-6 in the second half. In his postgame video, Coach Tierney said wing play needs to improve. From what I saw in the first half, I would agree. Let's see how much the team improves in the next 10 days. Ohio State away and Villanova (who defeated Penn State) at home will certainly test Hofstra's mettle. FYI, we also scrimmaged Syracuse and Le Moyne a week ago.

On another subject, nice to see G Jack Concannon and D Brett Osman receive recognition for their performances over the past couple of years:

Saw Seth before the Hobart scrimmage and he said they were dealing with lots of injuries; hopefully they get healthy before the Ohio State opener...Amazing how pre season injuries miraculously heal when the games are for real.

And down they go in the opener. Go down 5-0 in the first quarter, don't expect to win. To be fair, they rallied and at least made it close. But not enough, as they fall at Ohio State 9-7.

Strong comeback against one of the top team's in the country...we got it to 7-6. Also, our first game of the season. It was Ohio State's third...we'll be fine.

Touché. Only saving grace is that the CAA this year appears to be weak

First home game of the season tomorrow at 12 noon, vs. #8 Villanova, which has close wins against #16 Penn State and #11 Yale.

Also, here are the goals from last week's game vs. #4 Ohio State:

Last year we started 10-0 and didn't make the NCAA's. This year hopefully we'll finish strong. Fingers crossed.

What a joke. I'm not surprised one bit, but what a joke. Lacrosse used to be this schools bread and butter. A national power and consistently strong.

The moron running the show has single handedly killed this program to the point where there is less than a page of posts on a season thread (not A single game thread) a couple of weeks into the season. This guy flat out sucks and so does anyone that wants to make excuses for him.

LOL

I SWEAR this poster is not me under a different name  board admins can confirm!!

But sure I like whoever it is! Would be my pleasure to buy you a round at some point. It just won't be at a mens lax game until changes are made. At this point it is just complete and total negligence, and deserves not one iota of support.

Unfortunately we all know nothing will be done because the man with the money is blinded by some good ol boy friendship rather than keeping the best interest of the PROGRAM first. That is NOT leadership. ZERO integrity, ZERO character. 100% indefensible. But plenty will. Just disgraceful.

Feel absolutely terrible for this once proud program, and those who built the legacy of it. Feel the same for the current young men who bought into the BS. Flagship sunk. And apparently there is no one who can do anything about it that gives a sh!t.

But let's not fret, I'm sure everything will be "just fine".

As someone who looks forward to the lacrosse season, our 0-2 start is disappointing, to say the least, but it is not the end of the world. Our only route to the NCAA tournament is through the CAA championship (sorry, no more wildcards for the CAA; we're lucky we still have an AQ). So far, none of the CAA teams have distinguished themselves. It's anyone's league to win.

Lacrosse is a game of minutes, if not seconds. One or two goals can decide entire seasons, and even the best teams lose. Albany dismantled Syracuse a week ago, Penn upset #1 Duke yesterday, and Penn State lost to Robert Morris.

Let's get healthy, play our best athletes (even if it means replacing starters), and improve game by game. We can start by defeating SBU on Tuesday.
