Justin picks up his third CAA Player of the Week honors. Way to go Justin!!

Checkout video of dunk against Drexel posted on HU MBB website - AWESOME.

Just for kicks, don't want this conversation to get toooooo serious, but what do folks think of Justins chances in 2019 NBA draft (assuming he continues at this level or higher)?

Unlikely, I think he's too small. He's a great shooter though and a very good athlete, I'd love to see him get a shot in a camp.

There are 6-1 guards in the NBA... He certainly has the athleticism. He will need to transition to a PG and that may be tough... But for now congratulations Justin!

All your accolades are well deserved! Keep 'em coming!

I like this post Cards a nice topic to discuss without anyone being too contentious. I very rarely watch the NBA and consider myself to be a Knick fan but the truth is I don't watch them much. Charles Jenkins when he was drafted was drafted as a PG. CJ we all know was a shooting guard but had to play the point and my knowledge of this isn't great but I think this was because of his size. The average size for a SG in the NBA depending on when/where your getting your stats is around 6'4" to 6'5" I believe with shoes on. Jenkins was 6'3" so in the case of JWF who is maybe 6'1" how would he do as a PG in the NBA? We know he can shoot it from beyond the perimeter, he has a mid range game and can take it to the hole. He's a strong leaper but could he defend on the NBA level?? I remember Charles getting the MVP of the Colonial I believe twice and the Haggerty Award 3 consecutive times. He didn't last in the NBA however a guard that played in the CAA for Old Dominion at the same time without all the accolades that was bestowed on Jenkins has been playing in the NBA since 2012 Kent Bazemore. He was more known as a defensive specialist. So what's the determining factor to make you an NBA player??

Kudos to Justin. What a great season he is having for us. Keep up the great work.

On his shot in the NBA, slim, but who knows.. If he keeps this pace up, it will be hard to not give him an invite to the Portsmouth next year.

This young man is putting HU hoops back on the map - I readily admit even with my frustrations, he is worth watching HU all on his own.

I will also say, it is great to see the various national coverage he and some of the amazing finishes have garnered. Just goes to show if this program got its act together and started producing champions and NCAAT appearances, HU basketball would gain some real/noteworthy attention and publicity.

Despite my doubts, there is still time and opportunity...

Agreed Polito let's get a marketing campaign to promote HU B-BALL wrapped around JWF and the team using FOOTAGE from some of our last second heroics. I'm tired of constantly hear adds on WFAN promoting Stony Brook B-BALL. Ugh!!

Agree there is very little external communication/outbound marketing for this program. Unless you are on some email list...crickets...it all comes back to money.

I'm not privy to what goes on at the university but don't we have a good communications department. Why can't they buy space on CH 12 and run some adds. We clearly have the footage and the marquee player in JWF. It's the old adage U need to spend money to make money!

It all starts st the top with president rabinowitz. During our meetings the coaches that we had said it’s not the same anymore. Extra money for promotions and budget must be raised by the coaches. I am not privy to our total budget but if you subtract the cost of tuition Hofstra probably spends about 3 percent of the total endowment the university gets

Yep, but the U will fail to do so as usual.

If it wasn't for Steve G. no one would know a damn thing about this program - it's insane. Who is in charge of marketing? Advertising? Anyone? Anyone competent? Anyone competent with any real budget?

Embarrassing.

HU has NEVER promoted and built marketing campaigns around their star players, which is an absolute travesty as HU has have MANY of them. And plenty of other schools do this, so there's no excuse.

I said a couple of years ago HU should've had billboards in SI and the Bronx with Bernadi and Buie action photos and some kind of call to action to support local talent or hometown heros or something like that.

Having guys like Jenkins, Green, and now JWF make it so easy it's SCARY they can't put some cool marketing things in play. Can you imagine if VCU, ODU, or GMU had those guys, what they would do locally to market and promote?? How about SBU??? It would be sickening.

I mean this isn't rocket science, t's mind blowing HU has no one able, or some basic level of $, to do things like this.

We did several years ago around Jenkins...how do I know? because my company did it...we had a billboard on the LIE near Woodhaven Blvd with Jenkins and Pecora...Charles' senior year we averaged 3500 PER GAME! With three near sellouts! Can be done...all it takes is some creativity, hard work and a little money

Wow I know we had good attendance but 3,500 that would be great to get that now. It's a huge player motivator and we could put a lot more pressure on the opposing teams FT shooting! This U needs to buy air time on the local tv stations and promote this.

Here's our average attendance and record:

2005-2006: 26-7, 3,023
2006-2007: 22-10, 3,623 (our record was worse than in 2005-2006 but we were picked first in the CAA)
2007-2008: 12-18, 2,740 (Agudio and Jenkins were our top scorers after Stokes and Rivera graduated)
2008-2009: 21-11, 2,681
2009-2010: 19-15, 2,410
2010-2011: 21-12, 3,073 (Jenkins's senior year)
2011-2012: 10-22, 2,403
2012-2013: 7-25, 1,936 (our worst winning percentage in the CAA)
2013-2014: 10-23, 1,468
2014-2015: 20-14, 1,834 (first season with Green, Tanksley, and Bernardi)
2015-2016: 24-10, 1,685 (won out first CAA regular season title from a tiebreaker, but our attendance was lower than the previous season)
2016-2017: 15-17, 1,854
2017-2018: 11-7, 1,503

Our attendance for 2012-2013 through now is down about 40 percent from 2005-2006 through 2011-2012.

Thats a good find Ev.. That was my student section in the prime years.. In Guards We Trust, If you can't see, STAND UP.. Man, those were the days. Actually, if you walk the lobby area, we are all pictured in that picture of the students. Up close shots. We had an awesome time those few years.. Graduated in 07, and look what happened to the attendance, coincidence? Who knows. Maybe I was the catalyst though?

What's low key hurting us in attendance is that the games aren't consistently on WRHU anymore. That was a great piece of exposure for the program because the school did a great job with the broadcast.

Last Saturday I was stuck in traffic in Queens coming back from the city, and I figured I could listen to the 1st half in my car... nope. And if it was on a different radio station (not internet), I have no clue what station that would be. I love that the school produces/carries the Islanders broadcast, I do, but it's BS that men's basketball gets bounced off the airwaves all together.

Thanks for the attendance figures Evan. Man, I just feel like that '16 team was shamefully underpromoted. It's was only the second time we were picked 1st preseason, the other time was '07, when we set our attendance record. Winning and big name opponents are obviously huge factors of getting people in the arena, but you can sell the preseason #1 ranking, and the preseason POY. We're squandering that now again with JWF, this guy is electric, and the team is right in the mix, get the dates for the games in February out there!
