Conferences In The Northeast and Mid-Atlantic Are Worse

Seven conferences with many teams in the mid-Atlantic, northeast, and New England are the Atlantic 10, CAA, MAAC, America East, Northeast, Patriot League, and Ivy League. Those seven conferences have an out of conference winning percentage of .396 so far, and it would be worse if you took out games these conferences played against each other. Last season those seven conferences had an out of conference winning percentage of .458. The Atlantic 10 is .486 out of conference so far. In the last eight complete seasons the Atlantic 10 was .633 out of conference. The CAA's out of conference winning percentage is .109 worse than last season, and the Atlantic 10 and MAAC have bigger drops than that. The Northeast, who had the worst out of conference winning percentage last season other than the historically black MEAC and SWAC, is the only one of the seven with a better out of conference winning percentage than last season. I excluded the Big East which has half of its teams in that area and is always one of the best conferences. Other northeast teams being bad makes Hofstra's strength of schedule worse. Dayton is 97th in the RPI. Dayton has been better than that in seven of the last eight complete seasons, and Dayton has an average RPI of 31st in the last four complete seasons.

The CAA is definitely going through a down year, could be a lot of parity in the conference this season.

Towson is playing well and C of C has been playing without their big man Brantley. Don't know why UNCW was picked so high this year as they lost a lot including their best player and a real good coach.

The RPI has Towson and parity for everybody else. Elon has the second best RPI, but they're closer to Delaware in eighth than to Towson. Seven CAA teams are within 21 spots of at least one other CAA team, with Towson, Northeastern (second worst), and James Madison (worst) as exceptions.

D.C. and the 11 states north of it (ME, NH, VT, MA, CT, RI, NY, NJ, DE, PA, MD) have 81 out of 351 Division I teams, which is 23.1%, but only 16 out of the Top 100 of the RPI.
