MBB Trip to Canada

Post by ProudofPride »

Looks like the men's basketball team is taking a trip to Canada in August and September. Should be a good experience for the team, a nice change to get in some games and do some bonding. https://canhoopsca.wordpress.com/2017/0 ... confirmed/

Good experience extra work/practice should be a plus for the season. Based on competition we should go undefeated.

Nice to see this happening. I think it really helps from a bonding and experience perspective...

Somebody told me that the school is cutting out all unnecessary trips. Sure seems like it...

How do these summer trips work? Does it end up being extra days of practice and games, or does it reduce the number of practices the team is allowed when preseason starts up in October? Either way I think this is still totally worth it.

I think they get extra practice time and games but it can only be done on a limited basis; eg you can't do it every year.

Great to see, and hope to see more every year to come.

D1 teams do international trips every summer to gain more experience and practice - it's part of the deal these days - HU should be no different.

Official Hofstra announcement
http://www.gohofstra.com/news/2017/7/20 ... ummer.aspx

Hofstra WBB alum Lizanne Murphy will be in attendance in Montreal. I doubt she's ever seen a Hofstra team play in her home country, and who knows if it'll happen again.

3 days until game day! Does anyone know if there will be a way to follow the games? It seemed like there were at least live stats to follow along for some of the other CAA teams that took foreign trips.

https://citadins.uqam.ca/basketball-masculin.html is UQAM's basketball website, which unfortunately does not mention any audio, video, or statistics.

One of our opponents, McGill, just beat St Francis Brooklyn by double digits, should be a nice comparison to a D1 team we should be much better than this year. https://twitter.com/McGillAthletics/sta ... 8797803520

That's unfortunate. There was a periscope video of practice earlier, so I was hopeful that the internet was good enough. Starting the trip with a win would be a good birthday present for JAM tonight.

HU was up 6-0 after less than a minute. if the numbers on the scoreboard are actually aligned with the numbers on our roster, at that point in the game, Wormley, JWF, Pemba, Gustys, and Ray were all on the court.

Update: Periscope is now working. Sound isn't necessary unless you understand French. https://www.pscp.tv/HofstraMBB/1ynKOVVAlVExR

Halftime stats: https://twitter.com/HofstraMBB/status/9 ... 5719890944

Looks like it was actually Angus that started, not Ray. Shooting very well overall, but a few players are in foul trouble. Our starting center has more assists (2) than our starting point guard (0).

 :?

In *30 minutes* no less!! Good gracious :x

Absolutely alarming. But not at all surprising to me or anyone else who pays attention. Only 1 game, but that's Powers #2, and not at all what this team needs to win in the CAA.

A PG NEEDS TO CREATE AND DISH - does he understand this? DOES THE STAFF? Don't care one iota about his points. VERY disappointing first outing. Put the damn ball in your teammates hands Wormley - THAT is your job.

Great to hear about Angus.

But if this team doesn't get real point production, this team will go nowhere. REALLY annoyed because I've been calling this from day 1, yet the staff has force fed us all about his difference-making ability - better see much better and more PG appropriate play from this kid in the remaining games.
