Re: 2015 Pride Mens Lacrosse

Can we move off the topic of coaching changes? The Pride are playing much better and CAA play starts this weekend. Should be a fantastic day of lacrosse, maybe even some decent weather too, be good to see a large crowd support the team. St. John's is a decent team with talent and great coaching, yes...

Nice exchanges on other Pride Lax forums, can we agree to delete this one?

Re: 2015 Pride Mens Lacrosse

Coach ST is right, there is a good lacrosse team in that locker room. To me, it's about improving each week and getting ready for CAA play. I think Gtown is a great match up for the Pride and both teams will be ready. We need to see fewer penalties and more coordination on defense, maybe even throw ...

Re: MENS LAX NEEDS CHANGE

Well Polito we will have to agree to disagree. ST and staff went 13-5 last year, were one goal in a 3 OT game away from taking the CAA championship. Not sure what more you can ask for. I was as frustrated as you at the 0-2 start. I am not making too big a deal over yesterdays win over Manhattan. Hav...

Re: 2015 Pride Mens Lacrosse

I just don't think Long Island college kids are that into football. It isn't part of the ingrained culture at the high school level like it is in other parts of the country like Ohio, Texas, the southeast. I don't have enough history to know, but did HU football pack the Shu week in and week out? It...

Re: 2015 Pride Mens Lacrosse

To the earlier post, I would hardly use the word embarrassment when talking about the lacrosse team. That's just not accurate. As far as recruiting better players, well sure, sounds easy. I would argue the current staff has recruited better players. Guys like Selva, Malave, Reilly, Romano, Reicherte...

Re: 2015 Pride Mens Lacrosse

Winning the CAA is always the teams goal, NCAA after that. Too early to make out the CAA. Udel and Umass aren't playing as well as they need to. Towson looks strong. Fairfield will be a threat and Saputo at Drexel has to be taken seriously. To me, it's all about fixing the few issues with the Pride ...

Re: 2015 Pride Mens Lacrosse

Let's take it easy, this is a good team. The coaching staff isn't at fault for the 0-2 start. There are some teething pains with newer players filling shoes in attack and close defense. I am not making excuses, but the Marquette loss to a degree might be a function of emotions as the team is reeling...

Re: MENS LAX NEEDS CHANGE

I can appreciate the frustration. I think we need to take a deep breath and relax. Yes the Pride are 0-2, but all is not lost and there is no need to talk about major changes, especially to the staff. In my opinion, the losses this season are on a number of the players. Its not the coaches. Against ...

Re: 2015 Pride Mens Lacrosse

I am a fan and supporter of ST. I think he gets a bit of an unfair rap. The facilities, academic and alumni support are top notch and would not be what they are without him. The team stays out of trouble and the headlines and represents the university very well. HU has kids of character that by and ...

Re: 2015 Pride Mens Lacrosse

Polito: I don't think I am looking at this through rosy glasses. The talent is there, now the team needs to execute and finish. They need to avoid losses like the one to Marquette last year...and I think they will. My hunch is the core group of talented seniors isn't going to allow that type of laps...

Re: MBB Game 03 - Stony Brook - 11/21/14, 7 PM

Tough to get students on a Friday night but the turnout wasn't too bad and the students present seemed to have a great time. The atmoshpere was really good. Be great to see better turnout, I hope as the team continues to improve students will come out to support them. They deserve it. Very exciting ...

Re: MBB Game 01 - Jacksonville - 11/14/14, 8 PM

I would love to see the attendance rise and I would agree with what's been posted. Many have a bad taste in their mouths from recent events. But the new coach, new players deserve support. A few more wins and a positive vibe and things should improve.

Re: 2015 Pride Mens Lacrosse

Polito: I believe HU will be a top 15 team this season. I also see them taking the CAA. No surprise there, I am very biased. I admit it. But seriously, here's my reasoning: Strong core of top notch senior's in key skill positions: Goalie - Selva, LSM - Reilly, Midfield - Malave, SSDM- Reicherter, Ro...

Re: 2015 Pride Mens Lacrosse

Great points all JoJo. Cornell, Princeton, Ohio State are solid teams. CAA perennials like Drexel, UMASS, Towson, UDel, while up and down at times, are also tough opponents. There is also the other side of it is if ST devised too ambitious a schedule for the team. To Joeg, unfortunately the CAA can'...

Re: 2015 Pride Mens Lacrosse

Couldn't care less what the previous coach did or didn't do. I just don't think it's as easy as it sounds adding SOS to the HU schedule. I am not saying top D1 teams are afraid of HU, what I am saying is if an ACC team has a choice, given they all have great SOS to begin with, why would they pick an...

Re: 2015 Pride Mens Lacrosse

Well if they would welcome it, why then are they not here? Probably more reasons than we are aware of. I wonder how much upside an ACC team sees in playing Hofstra. I am not suggesting anyone is afraid, but rather, would prefer to add a different opponent. I have to believe ST has attempted to add s...

Re: 2015 Pride Mens Lacrosse

Great comments all. I would disagree on one point, I think those looking back at Donowski may be prejudiced by his success at Duke. I wasn't a close follower of HU lax back then but comparing his body of work at Duke against HU is unfair. He has more horses at Duke then HU, its just a reality. He's ...

Re: 2015 Pride Mens Lacrosse

The SJU loss isn't as ugly as you might think. The program has improved greatly under Jason Miller and their star player, Kieran McArdle is among the best attackman around, he was Rookie of the Year this past year in the MLL. Hofstra was without Sam Llinares due to injury that game which impacted th...

Re: 2015 Pride Mens Lacrosse

While aiming high, the goals should be attainable. Winning the CAAs and getting to the big dance are the two priorities. Graduating good young men that go on to be successful people is the other. I believe the coaching staff and University do a great job with supporting the players academically and ...
