Re: MBB Game 02 - @ NC State - 11/17/14, 7 PM on ESPN3

I think if this game was played in January and not November, Hofstra would have had a much better showing. The turnovers were killer- many of them weren't when they were trying to make a play, they were just flat out losing the ball (Gustys under the hoop all alone comes to mind). The zone worked, b...

I don't know, we're 2.5 minutes into this one and it's already looking uglier

Re: MBB Game 02 - @ NC State - 11/17/14, 7 PM on ESPN3

This is a real messy start. Guys falling all over the place, turnovers like crazy, and zero D under the rim for the Dutch.

Re: MBB Game 01 - Jacksonville - 11/14/14, 8 PM

It's a little different than a student club, it's a departmental organization. So their budget is the same (or close to it, I'd imagine, I have no idea what those figures are), but it's now managed by four students. And nothing against Fred Motley, but let's be honest, the music was stale, the stude...

Re: MBB Game 01 - Jacksonville - 11/14/14, 8 PM

The band I know is now student run, so I think they're adding in some more of their own music choices as well as really getting friends involved, which obviously increases the size.

Re: MBB Game 02 - @ NC State - 11/17/14, 7 PM on ESPN3

Bernardi could have a field day again. Nesmith, on the other hand, 1 for 8 from beyond doesn't excite me. If he could have hit 2 more, though, a 100 point game??

I'm glad this one will be streamed.

I don't know if the spread will be that big, as I'd expect a lot of the team to see some time out there.

Re: A Major Signing for Hofstra

He can't be a walk-on for the basketball team if he gets a baseball scholarship. Any athletic scholarship that he gets counts towards the basketball total, regardless if that's where he gets it from. That's ok for now, when it doesn't appear that they'll be near their total.

Re: Budget info

Any sport at any school where the revenue is the exact dollar amount as the expense, that means that it is losing money. Money that comes from the school general fund is considered revenue (which is something that has long been argued by many). That "revenue" is combined with ticket sales,...

Budget info

So I stumbled across this site while looking for something completely different. http://athleticscholarships.com/search/?s=Hofstra I have zero idea how they got some of these numbers, how accurate they are (the info is at least four years old, if it's accurate at all) and what it all means exactly. ...

Re: MBB OOC Schedule 14-15

RPI will definitely be brutal. Need a few teams to overachieve. But RPI doesn't really matter. Nobody is getting an at-large out of this league unless you're putting up a 25 win season, which I don't see happening. Might help a little for the NIT, but that's about it.

Yeah, there wasn't really anything wrong with the old one. I was used to it. Oh well.

If you're going to South Bend, you might as well go to Denver.

Re: MBB OOC Schedule 14-15

Doing some math, Hofstra's opponents' SI rank for OOC games averages a 235, and with the CAA teams added in, it's a 229 (not counting those teams twice, even if they play them twice). So not quite the toughest schedule, but hopefully with some success that can be built up. I have said before though ...

Georgetown and Ohio State are return games. Not sure why they're going to Princeton again though. And hopefully a trip to Cornell means they come to LI next year.

No clue. I see a lot of Nike logos on the wall though. I'm sure they didn't pay for it, but I wouldn't be surprised if some money came from Oregon.

Re: MBB recruits 2015

Hofstra went to Syracuse twice in the TP days. I made the trip both times. In 2004 they played a great game. Cuse was #7, Hofstra was 9-0 at the time. Hofstra lead most of the way, but Syracuse had a late run to take the lead. Hakim Warrick was an absolute monster that game though, and Hofstra had n...

Re: Kareem Huggins

The alumni I have no problem with. The league is a joke though. NPF is a bigger disaster. These minor league sports have awful business models- and don't get me started on the women's leagues. Lacrosse has been the only sport to get it right, and in certain instances, some of the second tier soccer ...

Re: MBB recruits 2015

I would think St. John's (and definitely Fordham...) would be much more upset than Syracuse would. They still have plenty of ACC pull and can still get the players they want, and are just one season removed from a Final Four. Syracuse is looking at 4s and 5s, not thrilled they got a 3. Until Hofstra...

Re: Kareem Huggins

Well the league has zero to do with the NFL, other than wanting to be a part of the NFL, which it will never do. If this league makes it past year 1, I'd be amazed. They couldn't even get white jerseys for one of the teams- it was black versus navy, played under minor league baseball lighting. In a ...
