Re: MBB Game 27 at UNC Wilmington on February 16 at 7:00 P.M

We didn’t lose the game because of Coburn. We shot 39% as a team. JWF shoot 9-25 and missed several layups. That’s the same way we lost to Northeastern. Add to that the two technicals. Yes, the officiating was poor but that’s what we typically see when we play the southern teams and it’s what we wil...

Re: MBB Game 27 at UNC Wilmington on February 16 at 7:00 P.M

So I thought the same thing about the at large fantasy is officially blown up! Good!! Enough fantasy and counting on the mercy of the NCAA. Now go win the CAA tournament. We have been there done that with at large snubs in the past so just take care of business boys. Staying in the at large discuss...

Re: Justin Wright-Foreman's Legacy

Rich Laurel was the best Hofstra player I've ever seen. Speedy was second and Charles third. Justin is closing in on the fourth spot on my person Dutch "Mount Rushmore". Note: I did not see Nisenson or Thieben. I am not THAT old! :) This would be my ranking too. All amazing players. I did...

Re: MBB Game 23 at Northeastern on February 2, 2019 (4:30 P.

JWF, Pemberton, Coburn and Ray shot a combined 9-36 and 3-17 from three. There's your game. Coburn actually shot an air ball on a layup. Not sure how much credit Northeastern gets for that performance. Doubt you'll see shooting that bad from this team again.

Re: 2018-2019 Men's Basketball New York NET Ratings

Not likely. But I remember the 94-95 Manhattan team. They were something like 24-3 with no signature wins when they lost in the MAAC final and got an at large bid and then won their first NCAA game. But we would have to essentially run the table and lose in the CAA final to even have an outside shot...

Re: Hofstra vs CoC 1/19/19

You guys left out David Taylor in your Center list - Played for HU from '79-83 - Career Avg 17 ppg and 8.7 boards for 4 years including ECC POY his senior season. Shot 53.5 from field and decent 69.6 from line. 1.2 steals and 1.7 blocks! Good point about David Taylor. Great player. The 82-83 team w...

Re: Hofstra vs CoC 1/19/19

That kid can ball - he should be taking WAY more shots for CofC - but that team has no leadership, and little chemistry - can see just how damaging that can be to a talented team. Alas, no sympathy, they've had plenty of play recently, it's time for DUTCH Ah, memories of Stokes - was excited about ...

They also played fewer games back then which makes Nisenson’s numbers even more impressive.

That’s right. Most of his shots would be three pointers today. One of the best pure shooters we ever had.

Re: Hofstra vs CoC 1/19/19

The 1976 and 1977 NCAA tournament teams were the best Hofstra squads that I've seen. Rich Laurel remains my all-time #1 player, followed closely by Speedy and Charles. Justin is close behind. The late John Irving was phenomenal on the boards. I'd also rate Pat Kammerer from the 76-77 teams as a ver...

Re: Hofstra vs CoC 1/19/19

Uter is an all time favorite for me. Played much bigger than he was and brought the energy every game! I know Rok gets overshadowed by his poor FT shooting, but his presence on the boards should put him in this conversation. Not the best but probably top 5? He was a good offensive player when he ha...

Re: Hofstra vs CoC 1/19/19

I would put taylor in the same class as Greg Springfield and Adrian Uter. mI still think these two are slightly ahread of Taylor. Both had 10 blocks in one game along with Greg Washington. Springfield to Taylor is a good comparison. I’m thinking Uter was a step above both. Even though he was only 6...

Re: Hofstra vs CoC 1/19/19

This team is special. Us long time Hofstra guys know when we see it. I was the SID for the 76-77 teams who first went the the big dance and I was also around for Jay Wright's teams. I have never seen a Hofstra team that has the chemistry of this team! They find very different ways to win but they w...

Re: Hofstra vs W&M 1/10/19

Nobody's calling Dwyer a "big success". But quality big men are hard to come by in this league and when you graduate both your 5's and get a solid starter and a serviceable backup (who averages almost 4 rpg in 17 minutes and hits his free throws) to fill those roles I'd say that's a positi...

Re: Hofstra vs W&M 1/10/19

Not sure why everyone knocks Dwyer. Yes, sometimes he’s overmatched but he’s an experienced upperclassman who is fundamentally very sound. He doesn’t make mistakes or turn the ball over. Rebounds pretty well and knows his role. We’re lucky to have him as a backup 5 given we had to replace both Rok a...

Trueheart is 6’8” and thinks he’s a guard. Seems like he launches a three every time he touches the ball. Great potential but no discipline. Easy to see why he’s not playing.

Re: Game 12 at Stony Brook on December 19, 2018 at 7:00 P.M.

The nine day lay off really showed. They were rusty and did not shoot well from the floor or the line but still found a way to win in a very tough environment against a good team. Very impressive. The team is showing the intangibles needed to make this a great season. Taylor looked like a different ...
