Re: 2021 Men's Lacrosse

SBU lost to Md. in the finals a few years back with what I thought was much the better team due in part to a ludicrous disparity in the fouls/infractions called; favoring Md. The pedigrees do invariably get the benefit of the doubt.

Re: MBB Recruits 2021

I wasn't familiar with Cooks or Dunbar but the more homework I have done the more excited I have become. I will be surprised if both don't start, see significant minutes and shine for us. However another guard that can't shoot is a puzzler. It would seem we will already need to redshirt 1 or 2, alth...

This can certainly be done for multiple sports and each gender but I was focused exclusively on men's basketball.

Top 10 or so players to come out of Nassau/Suff.

Since I have been gone since 66, I will offer up some candidates from the "early' years and defer to you young whippersnappers to cover more recent times. Carl Braun-Garden City, Ernie Vandewege Art Heyman-Oceanside, Jimmy Brown-Manhasset, Wally Szerbiack-CSH?, Connie Dierking-Valley Stream, Wa...

Re: Bill Thieben

Thanks for the links on Davis Jojogunne, let's hope we get him. The Nisenson interview was fun. I enjoyed his relating after a guy in the bar was telling him how great a player he was not knowing he was talking to him until Steve says I hear he's not that good. Also that Butch had Carl Braun in the ...

Re: Bill Thieben

When I went to Hofstra Hall for my admissions interview in 1955, there was one other person in the room; Bill Thieben. I was too shy to approach him. I had seen him play a number of times before entering Hofstra thanks to older friends that drove. We went to our Christmas tournament faithfully and t...

Re: Early 2021 Women's Soccer

Our gals suffered a tough 1-0 loss to Elon despite being the dominant team. Their goalie stopped all 8 shots on goal, while they converted 1 of their 2 chances. The men prevailed 4-2 over UNCW in a tighter contest. Soccer can be a cruel sport. Let's hope the ladies get a wild card. They deserve it a...

Re: Hofstra Golf

Hofstra has limited resources. The people responsible for allocating them on the whole have made sound choices. Over the years, golf, tennis and CC have received very little support and our teams have been embarrassingly bad. Currently we have people doing terrific jobs making our CC and tennis prog...

Re: 2021 Men's Lacrosse

Yes, great, and for me surprising win. 18 for 26 on face offs and 9 extra ground balls made the difference. Does anyone know if and when we will get Concannon back?

Re: 2021 Men's Lacrosse

The 2002 snub was perhaps the most egregious injustice for any school in any sport. I looked at the brackets and was disappointed we hadn't received 1 of the 4 seeds; when I couldn't find us in the field, I simply could not believe it. We had beaten teams like Duke, UNC and Notre Dame by 5 to 10 goa...

Re: 2021 Men's Lacrosse

While hope springs eternal, patience doesn't. Like Mikey, while hopeful, I was sure we would lose even when we drew to within 5-4. Good teams are structurally sound. People are in the right position to deny outlet passes, challenge and slow transitions, deny penetration. Our defense is passive and d...

Alex gave Hofstra some great exposure running with the leader and then 4th for much of the race before fading in the last 2k. Congratulations to him and Vince on becoming our 1st AA in CC.

Hofstra's best runner ever, runs in the National CC championships at Stillwater tomorrow at 1:40 on ESPNU. Barring covid changes there should a field of 255 runners. The top 31 teams of 7 and the top 38 individuals on non qualifying teams. The top 40 are All Americans. Last year Alex was 127th on a ...

Re: 2021 CAA Men’s Basketball Tournament

Like Polito, I am so disappointed and disgusted that I am reluctant to share for fear of offending people I like, respect and care about. Our coaches have consistently recruited well and put us in a position to be relevant and with high expectations. They have attracted solid citizens who stay with ...

Re: Invitation to Join My Dad's NCAA Men's Basketball Pool

Evan, Thank you for offering to facilitate my participation. I don't believe I have any such accounts although I did successfully swap brackets via the net with my sons a couple of times but have failed recently a couple of times as well and resorted to the phone. In any case forward me a bracket/re...

Re: Invitation to Join My Dad's NCAA Men's Basketball Pool

Thanks for opening up your Dads' pool to the board Evan. I have swapped picks with my boys for 40 years and participated in a calcutta for 25 or so in Minneapolis, 20 years or so ago. We would play for a couple of hundred per entry, the tournament field would be auctioned off 1 team at a time, high ...

Faceoffs, goal tending, Mr. Tierney; now if we can just add defense to the mix we might have something.

Re: Hofstra Wrestling 2021

Like yourself Stuball I follow all of our teams quite closely and appreciate your frequent acknowledgements of their achievements. Since it is primarily a bball board I'll try not to go too deep into the weeds. The 5 set, 110pts to 109 at Seton Hall was indeed a dandy. We are getting bigger. I was n...
