Re: NCAA 2024 MBB Transfer Portal

Hadn't seen this announced here yet... from a few days ago! https://twitter.com/jeffborzello/status/1782853472980734410 "Canisius transfer TJ Gadsden has committed to Hofstra, source told ESPN. Talented 6-foot-7 wing averaged 9.3 points and 4.6 rebounds this past season. Shot nearly 35% from 3 ...

Re: Next Year's Team

Hearing it's another NY kid, a PG, who was on the all-freshman team in his conference, who will round out the roster. Looks like Speedy's plan is to go after transfers from NY who want to play near home then have the opportunity to follow an Estrada path. This sounds a lot like Moe Odum, who is sup...

Re: NCAA 2024 MBB Transfer Portal

Dubar #15 on ranking of top 50 transfers in the portal: "15. Darlinstone Dubar, 6-8, SF, Jr., Hofstra Pride Given his size and ability to make shots from the perimeter, Dubar will be sought after. Averaged 17.8 points and 6.8 rebounds, making 40% of his 3s. Had 24 and 8 against Duke." The ...

Re: Next Year's Team

I didn't consider Carlos leaving but this is a new landscape, anything is possible. Led league in assists by a mile and regular entry on the all defensive team. I think Carlos stays. He has a great relationship with Speedy and he knows Speedy will make him the best player he can be. If he leaves th...

Re: Next Year's Team

My biggest questions for the offseason... What happens with Myles Wilmouth? Can we keep Jaquan here? He reminds me a lot of Buie the year before he broke out and helped bring us to the CAA tourney championship win. Not that he's the same player, but that he's our heartbeat, keeps getting better, ble...

Re: MBB Game 30 @UNCW, Feb. 29 (Thu), 7 PM

I'm not worried about Thomas at all. UNCW did everything they could to stop him which opened things up for Dubar and Carlos. They picked their poison, betted that stopping Thomas would win the game and they lost! Great gut check win when it really mattered! All the early doomsayers can eat their wo...

Re: Next Year's Team

Well neither are in our program so let's focus on WHAT WE NEED TO DO FOR NEXT YEAR....we need just about everthing; bigs, scorers and dare I say DEPTH. I agree living in the past isn't helpful, but learning from the past is. Us letting Amare Marshall go (or losing him?) matters. The kid dropped 24 ...

Re: MBB Game 11 Norfolk State, Dec 16 (Sat), 2 PM EST

Some of yesterday's key PPS numbers: Thomas 1.29 PPS (22 pts on 17 shots) Dubar 0.93 (13 pts on 14 shots) Washington 1.44 (13 pts on 9 shots) - a pretty good PPS number because of his perfect 2-pt shooting, not his poor 3-pt. shooting. Carlos 2.50 (10 pts on only 4 shots even though 3 of his 4 were...

Re: MBB Game 12 @ UNLV, Dec 21 (Thu), 10 PM EST

I watched UNLV/Creighton and the Alabama/Creighton game-- agree on all those previously made points. UNLV is a good team with a lot of length and athleticism... should be a tough game. It was really interesting to see Estrada not as the primary option. He is definitely playing more of the Tyler Thom...

10 points seems like a lot... they could be a tough matchup for us.

I hope Speedy is prepping these guys to come in on high alert and come out with intensity... Philly and Towson both play with a physicality that seems to rattle us.

Re: MBB Game 24 - Towson, 2/2/23 (Thurs), 7 PM

Do they have injuries?

3.5 points isn't extreme, and may just account for home court, but they beat us by 20+ points last time on their court so I'm a bit surprised.

I'm also surprised those ESPN %'s are so pronounced... but that probably just speaks to the crappy nature of their prediction model.

We classically play down to our opponents and expectations in games like these. I'm looking to see Speedy get this team up and ready to win this one decisively.

+1 - Wish him the best and loved having him as a lifelong member of the pride, but we have enough offense this season and think finding him minutes would be the wrong move.

Great insight Polito-- thanks for pulling all of that together. I do get excited when guys like Adam Finklestein get excited-- I'm not saying they're elite talent evaluators, but they see a LOT of kids and have a good feel for what good looks like as an outside source. Great handle, great SIZE for t...

Re: MBB Roster for 2022-23

Great find and thanks for sharing!

I'd predict we stick to the 4-out offense we classically run and have Dubar play the 4 and JC run the point. What are other's guesses for our starting 5 now that the roster took shape?
